Module Summaries

Computer Concepts & Basic Communication

Review basic English structures and learn proper professional communication skills. Learn key terminology and technology associated with computers, including computer hardware and software, file management and network technology.

Windows

We'll teach you the workings of the latest Windows operating system, including using the desktop, managing files and folders, and using the Windows Help & Support.

Internet Basics

Provides a step-by-step introduction to all aspects of the Internet. Topics covered include browsers, searching techniques, and email.

Word Processing: Microsoft Word

You will learn how to create and format a variety of documents such as business letters, memos and reports.

Database: Microsoft Access

The fundamentals of creating a database, including defining a table structure, entering records and navigating a database, previewing tables and creating queries.

Medical Terminology

You will learn the root words of each body system, as well as prefixes and suffixes. You will know how the body and its related terminology is organized, including the skin, the skeletal system, the muscular system, and countless other specialized areas.

Medical Office Procedures

You will learn how to work effectively within a medical environment and amongst medical staff. We will help you become acquainted with medical ethics and law, and how to interact with patients. You will study telecommunications, medical record management, and accounts management. You will also learn about scheduling appointments, making travel arrangements, managing medical records, and postal services.

Medical Transcription

You will learn the fundamentals of pronouncing and deciphering the medical terminology covered in earlier modules. You will be shown how to recognize by ear the terminology for all the major specialty areas, and how to quickly and easily transcribe these into a medical report.

Business Communications

Learn the essentials of business communication demanded in the modern office environment. Focuses on training necessary to develop competence in each of the communication skills: reading, writing, speaking and listening. Develop flexible attitudes and special sensitivity to the effects of culture while learning to think critically.

Keyboarding

This is an instructional program designed to give you a high degree of flexibility and success in meeting your goals for effective typing skills. The solid theoretical basis you will obtain with this course enables you to transfer your skills to any computerized business environment. Exercises are designed to help you achieve a speed of 50wpm by the end of the program, with extra practice hours incorporated.

Filing

You will learn the fundamentals of filing through a series of instructions, exercises, and quizzes using a mini filing system which simulates business documents that would be found in a professional office.
