Programs

Improve your chances for a new career or promotion!

This is an advanced diploma program with a focus on the businessperson wishing to further their education in accounting and management.**

We’ve chosen modules which will help an intermediate student enhance their accounting skills as well as provide an introduction into the daily operations of a business and what a manager faces in these daily operations.

An entrance requirement will be a previous knowledge of accounting, but students will gain a better understanding of what is necessary in the business setting, including financial statements such as the Income Statement and Balance Sheet, as well as how managers use the information on these statements to make daily financial decisions in a business.

It is important to create an opportunity for management training. Our distance format will be an advantage for people already in the business sector who cannot afford time off to upgrade their skills but who will benefit in the form of opportunities for promotions within their current careers as well as migration to new careers in management and financial accounting.

This program is in development and we expect it to be enrollable by January, 2009.

Career Prospects

According to HRDC & Service Canada, the outlook through 2009 is “good” [NOTE: there is no higher metric on their scale] in that the employment is growing at an above-average rate, the hourly wages are much higher than the average, and the unemployment rate is quite low. The number of jobs is expected to match the number of job-seekers, so the chances of a graduate gaining employment are quite good.

You will be able to apply for a career in any of these exciting fields:

  • Business Management
  • Entrepreneur
  • Business Owner/Operator
  • Management Trainee
  • Office Manager
  • Inventory Control Manager
  • Director of Financial Services
  • Financial Administrator
  • Employer-Employee Relations Manager
  • Human Resources Manager
  • Purchasing Manager
  • Administrative Services Manager

Average salary: $64,022

Career Prospects

Graduates will have an understanding of the basic accounting cycle as well as the procedures for financial accounting and managerial accounting.

Students will be taught basic office software skills with a focus on how these software packages are applied in a business setting.

Graduates will also have an understanding of Canadian business practices as well as specific management skills such as organizing, planning, leading and controlling.

Each module is project-based, with objective commentary and recommendations for improvement accompanying the evaluation each week. There is an exam project at the end of the program designed to help the student apply skills learned and to operate in a simulated workplace situation.
